Dear colleagues,
Fingal County Council [http://www.fingalcoco.ie] , a local authority in the Dublin region of Ireland, would like to develop links with existing EU partnerships or with individual projects involved in the preservation and/or revival of indigenous traditional music and/or mumming (see below). Fingal County Council are actively involved in the preservation and revival of traditional Irish music, primarily through the Seamus Ennis Cultural Centre [http://www.seamusenniscentre.com/] . Further expansion of this Centre is foreseen in the coming years and, in conjunction with this, the County Council would like to develop a European dimension to the Centre, possibly within the framework of the Culture 2000/2007 programme. This would, in particular, be aimed at supporting collaboration in areas s! uch as touring, joint production, exchanges, education, etc..
Mumming is a winter-time masked activity that dates from medieval times. While it has now largely died out, it is believed that it still exists in certain parts of Europe, particularly in Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland as well as Sardinia, the Southern Bavaria area, the Basque region, Portugal, Southern Greece and various parts of the British Isles including Scotland, northern England, south Wales, the Isle of Man, and Northern Ireland especially Armagh and Fermanagh.
