Overview
Kunsthalle Exnergasse (KEX) is launching a call for applications for a 3-month artist residency in Tokyo in 2019. This call is part of a residency exchange program between KEX and Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS).
TOKAS has been operating artist-in-residence programs for international creators to stay, engage in creation and conduct research activities since 2006. TOKAS Residency has served as a creative platform for creators in all stages of career to meet and generate interactive communication.
KEX is a non-profit art space located in WUK Werkstätten- und Kulturhaus in Vienna. KEX defines itself as an open platform for the presentation and realization of projects involving innovative and experimental contemporary art. Since 2012, KEX awards grants for artist and research residencies.
What does the program offer?
The program offers a space to live, a space to work, and the opportunity to experience the unique environment in Tokyo, a city where tradition and leading-edge technologies and culture coexist. Furthermore, the artist will receive a grant for living expenses (1.300,- € per month) and a refund for travel costs (up to 1.000,- €).
What length of residency is available and when?
The duration of the residency will be three months, starting in the beginning of September 2019 and ending in the end of November 2019.
Who should apply?
The residency is for visual artists with their main place of residence in Austria. Please note that applications from artists who previously have participated in TOKAS programs as well as applications from students cannot be accepted. Excellent English skills (written and spoken) are required.
When and how can I submit my application?
Artists can apply online between September 5 and October 5, 2018.
Deadline for submissions is October 5, 2018.
